PostSubject: Mac vs. PC   Mac vs. PC EmptyMon Jan 10, 2011 3:48 am

Hey guys! Who is using a MAc here instead of a PC? Just planning on buying the cheapest iMac out there as I dont think my husband and I needed a laptop right now. But i'm just wondering if it's a good idea to switch Mac?

P. S.
I download a lot of torrents for my mp3s, PC software and games, etc. so I don't know if I'll still be able to do this on Mac...

Mac vs. PC 60006_700

I still think thats funny... hehe Although you can write mac software for the PC, it doens't happen cause Apple won't allow you to write their software for non apple machine. See the problem here is people forget that PC stands for personal computer, not Windows. A PC begins with a clean slate with no operating system on it. Most stores sell you a PC with Windows, but that doens't mean you can't run other OSs on it. Or more than one(all our computers run both windows and some form of linux)

Personally I don't like macs at all. I can't stand their false advertising, their inflated prices, and their stupid setup/layout on the computer. The only good macs were the ones they made 20 yrs ago, the ones today suck.

LOL That's so funny Neo, funny but so true.

My hubby only uses our windows PC before for web browsing, email, photo uploads. Other than that, he's a total noob on computers. I'm not saying he's a 16 year old pussy also. Lol.

I think I will mainly use my pc for the same thing plus some photo and video manipulations. I am getting used to using my iphone for the forum already. Ha!

Maybe Beto is right, we should just go for it and get a shiny new mac. It just looks so good sitting on top of our office table. Lol. Damn that advertising, it's really effective onme. Evil or Very Mad

Mac vs. PC Empty
PostSubject: Re: Mac vs. PC   Mac vs. PC EmptyMon Jan 10, 2011 5:38 pm

Hi glitchy! I have a desktop at home that is a PC, and a macbook unibody (white one) and a macbook pro (aluminium laptop).

I didn't get the mac by choice, it was the faculty that had signed a contract with an Authorized Apple reseller that made all its students have to buy a mac upon admissions. But the mac grew on me. I am now very at ease with it. I think the softwares are made to simplify and be more "user-friendly" than the pc. It is sleek prettier also. The integrated webcam is very clear. Hmm.. But I only use my laptops for note-taking, video and photo browsing. XD

Some of my classmates use their laptops for gaming. You should look into the specs, because the white Macbook (the default base choice one) comes with a lower RAM that's not optimal for intense gaming. My new macbook pro has double their RAM (I think all macbook pros have higher RAM than the Base white macbook, but you can always get a white macbook with higher RAM, just add more money lol)

Erm. Also, Macbook pro 13inch has higher battery life (my aluminium one works for 10 hours unless I'm gaming or streaming a movie) than the white macbooks (i think my white one has 5 hours). Any bigger macbook pros would have lower battery life.

Macbook pro also has LED backlit screen, that's why it's battery lasts longer I think. Colors are also better. creep

I actually have gotten so much used to macs now that I'm not sure if I will detach from apple after graduation XD. I have an iphone also and have grown severely attached to it.

If you buy an iMac you'll never regret it! ... cheers

I got my macbook 4 years ago and just last year we got the New macbook with the LCD screan
I can tell you one thing! you will never touch a PC in your life EVER AGAING!!!
Yes they are expensive.
Yes the are inflated in price.

The advantages: nearly instant start-up, easier networking and wifi no like windows.
You can still run MS Office and if you don't have a code to install I will give you one for free Very Happy
If you need to run windows Install Boot Camp wich it comes with with your mac. After you've completed the installation boot up your Mac using either Mac OS X or Windows Wink
THere is lots and lost the you can do with the new mac this days!

One more thing If you looking to play games on a Mac now you can I think the 21' comes with ATI Radeon HD 4670 but for example I like to play Starcraf (the newone) it will run it but not good.

Thanks for the input guys. Very Happy what bubbles said made me wanna buy one. You should be on advertising bubs. Razz
I am not big on upgrading pc hardwares, etc. Maybe if I am still in the Philippines coz parts and labor is REALLY cheap back there. But here in Canada? Nuh-uh.

Bubs, do I still need to buy the Windows software if I install boot camp? And thanks for the MS Office code, I will get that from you in time. Very Happy Also, do you know if torrents (bit torrent, etc. ) would work on macs? I guess I can always google the answer for that.

If you still have the original CD from Windows you don't need to buy one, just use the same CD
I don't know what Version of Windows you are runing but If You need an Original copy of XP Profesional I have one wich I don't use .
Any other Version Of Windows will work on Boot camp, I just found the XP was one of the best Microsoft Windows came out.

Torrents for Mac, you have to download a program call Trasmission for torrents http://www.transmissionbt.com/

Oh and Glitchy, you might want to beware because new Mac designs come out like every July/August. But it's good, mostly they don't undergo major changes.
Oh, and that's the thing about Mac, you get to choose between Windows and Mac. Though that's awesome, I would definitely go for the Mac software Wink

You'll be handicapping yourself a lot with macs. If you're a basic user (you just do email, web surfing, mp3, youtube) then get a mac.
If you're an advanced user and you plan to customize your computer, encode videos, gaming, run weird programs, then stick with PC.

I have a mac laptop and I hate it so much. If it was any sturdier, I'd put it under the leg of a crooked table to balance it out.

I consider myself a basic computer user. What I do with my pc are:
Surf web
Forum
Email (which i usually do on iphone nowadays)
Facetime/skype with my family back home
Torrents, mostly mp3s and some programs I can get for free instead of paying $$$ for
Photo and Video uploads and some basic manipulation

If you hate your Mac too much, just trade it in for a PC. Lol. I still have a lot to learn on my mac, like how to organize my files and sort them out...

I can't trade it. The school gave it to me but they consider it "lending" until I graduate. cry1
Plus it'll be worth nothing in a year (I got it 3 years ago).
