PostSubject: Musicals   Musicals EmptyFri Jul 01, 2011 12:42 am

I wonder if any of you have seen this yet. It is based on the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. I've read about 1/4 of the book but somehow lost interest (or FP distracted me too much).

So I've seen this musical recently, I think it's their first time touring Canada. And I've heard that it's REALLY good. So I wouldn't miss it for the world, right. I even called in sick because I accidentally (and stupidly) bought tickets for the show on the day that I'm supposed to be working. Anyway, it didn't let me down. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

So for those of you who love Broadways and musicals, even those who doesn't, I recommend you to watch this. Bring your girlfriend if you prefer. creep

Here's my favorite scene, I think this is the last number on Act I and has Idina Menzel as Elphaba (the wicked witch of the west) and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda (the good witch). I can't say I didn't cry towards the end (I made sure my hubby and the other lady beside me wasn't looking when I discreetly wiped the tears away). It was absolutely overwhelming. I like watching musicals and this, by far, is the best one (for me).

P.S.
Post your favorite musicals! Very Happy

Oh, musicals...

I LOVE them! Every time I am visiting hime, I am trying to stay for a day or two in NYC (I like to stay near Hell's Kitchen, in Wyndham Garden Hotel, W 36 Street in Manhattan, don't ask me why). One reason is that from there it's a 10-15 miutes walk to the Broadway. But! FYI, if you ever decide to go to the Bradway's performance, whether it's a theatrical one or musical, DO NOT buy tickets directly from them. Go to TKTS discount booth (there is a famous Red TKTS on Time's Square). You can save up to 50-60% there! I've seen A LOT of musicals that way.

And! My all-time favourite is... No doubt... POTO!

P.S. Glitchy, I was fond of Wicked TOO! I saw it and imnmediately fall in love with it... So, yeah, I can understand your tears. Sad

I didn't know that Idina and Kristin were still performing in Wicked! How exciting! (for those that don't know they are also on glee!)

Gregory Maquires books are a commitment. You have to really push through the first 100 pages before they "pick up" and really reel you in. That's because he spends a lot of time in the beginning really explaining the history and laying out the background.

If you do decide to pick up the book again, be forewarned. The Musical had to do some creative editing. So they storylines aren't quite the same.

Maybe I should see if wicked is still playing in Chicago.

I love Wicked... I also love Phantom Of the Opera..

When we went to Las Vegas a few years back, we watched the Phantom in the Venitian Hotel and it was so amazing.. The theater there is purpose built just to show that musical and its best musical i have ever seen in my life!

I've never been to New York but I want to go someday and watch all the shows playing in Broadway. Smile I am so jealous Owlka. ImSorry

James, I've never seen Phantom of the Opera but isn't it the longest running broadway show? It is still playing so hopefully, someday... creep

Pam, I'm not sure if it's still playing in Chicago. According to wikipedia:

Quote :
Wicked played to more than 2 million visitors in Chicago with a gross of over $200 million, making it the highest-grossing show in Chicago history by June 2007.[39][40]

The production closed on January 25, 2009, after over 1,500 performances.

But if ever it still is, you have to go and see it.

Here's another one from another favorite, Les Miserables.

I heard about this new show made by the makers of south park.
Its called the book of mormon. I guess it has already won awards. I know it sounds weird but i guess they took it serious and its nothing like south park.

Oh yeah, Shred! I've heard about it too! They say it's really hillarious, especially if you know mormons in a RL.

So yeah, I know them! And yeah, I am going to see this show next time I am visiting home!

After all, it's Tray Parker & Matt Stone, for crying out loud! Wink
