Sarsaparilla is kind of like root beer from long ago. It has quite a history at least here in the USA as part of the days of the Wild, Wild West.

In the Bugs Bunny Cartoons, Yosemite Sam would often burst through the doors of an Old West saloon, and he would ask for a "sasparilly, and make it snappy!"

"sarsaparilla" is what the old people in my country call the drink we call "root beer" today. I didn't know that word until recently when my husband, hundred years my senior, told me that.

Glitchy - you can ask for an Arnold Palmer in most restaurants (at least around here) even if it is not on the menu. Any place that offers ice tea and lemonade! Yum!!

In the south they just call it a half and half.

The drink is named after him....allegedly he was overheard ordering the half lemonade -half ice tea drink in a restaurant.

He now has even canned versions of the popular drink that can be found almost everywhere!
