| Clans of long ago that wanted to get rid of unwanted people without killing them used to burn their houses down -- hence the expression "to get fired" | |

| can you do this?
The specific motor skills involved in making a "flower" shape with your tongue involves more than just practice. People who are able to do this are already predetermined from before birth, by the genes they received from their parents!
It takes a pair of recessive genes for this ability.
Quick info about genes: - Generally, we have genes that fall into the "recessive" or "dominant" category. - For a single trait, a person receives 1 gene for it from the mom and 1 gene for it from the dad. - It can be of any combination: 2 recessive genes, 1 recessive + 1 dominant, or 2 dominant genes - The dominant gene always overrules the recessive gene. So even though you may have 1 recessive gene + 1 dominant gene, you will express the characteristics of the dominant gene. - Doing the math, we see that in probability, we have 1/4 chances to have 2 recessive genes in a theoretical 2 gene-commanding trait - In real life, it can be more complexe. Traits can require multiple genes. There are genes that will completely stop the expression of that trait (able to overrule dominant and recessive). There are traits that are governed by genes that are expressed only partially (so no distinguishing between dominant and recessive) - this is the case for skin color. - If you have 1 recessive gene+1 dominant gene, you are called a "Heterozygote". You won't express the "recessive" trait", but you have the possibility (1/2 chance) of passing your recessive gene to your children. If your partner is 2xrecessive (called "homozygote recessive", there will be high chance your children will have this recessive trait. Choose your spouse wisely
Note: Yes, I can! | |
