Hey Jokers!
I've recently seen an amazing documentary by Stacy Peralta (famous scateboarder and movie maker) called Riding Giants, and boy I was amazed. Amazed with the beauty of it, with art-direction, with music and everyting... And that's why I've decided to put a list of documentaries I was amazed by, shocked with or just pleased to watch.
1. Man With a Movie Camera (http://www.ex.ua/view/540737). Old Soviet documentary (was shot in 1929) that is believed to be the best out there. Don't try to understand it—just feel it, enjoy it, see it as an art performance... Plus soundtrack is really good!
2. Woodstock (http://kat.ph/woodstock-69-1970-dvdrip-xvid-t494297.html). You must see it to feel the atmosphere of 60th, plus rock'n'roll music in its best will make you dance!
3. Super Size Me (http://kat.ph/super-size-me-divx-t1225086.html). All the truth about fast food in this provocative and eyes-opening documentary about man that decided to eat only in fast foods for certain period of time.
4. Dogtown and Z-Boys (http://kat.ph/dogtown-and-z-boys-2001-dvdrip-eng-spa-subs-t749948.html). If you love 70th, this is the movie that will make you nostalgic, plus will educate you about one of the best scateboard team of all times — Z-Boys.
5. Bowling for Columbine (http://kat.ph/bowling-for-columbine-avi-t1204846.html). This film made me understand that I was lucky enough to live and study in countries where it's been illegal to own firearms.
6. Cocaine Cowboys (http://www.ex.ua/view/1051439). Very good film about Miami in 70th-80th and about drugs and about smart men that tells the stories of their lives as it is.
7. Grey Gardens (http://kat.ph/grey-gardens-1975-2009-t3426151.html). There are film (2009) AND documentary (1975) about two women who lives in their 28 rooms mansion. Very decadance movie you should see to understand what Amertcian aristocracy is all about...
8. September Issue (http://www.ex.ua/view/5750511). A must-see for anyone who's interested in fashion or want to have the inside look on VOGUE's famous September Issue's creating process.
That's it for now, please feel free to share with us your favorite documentaries!

I love watching documentaries too! I am going to add the documentaries I have watched.
One of my favorites is called. WASTELAND. It is about Brazilian artist Vik Muniz. He created stunning works or art out of garbage. The unemployed trash pickers of Rio de Janiero are the subject of some of his epic portraits. When creating these works of art, he actually had the garbage pickers assist him. Then as he sold off the pieces, he gave all the proceeds to each garbage picker. It really helped transform their lives! It also made me realize - WOW Brazil does not have recycling!
The next movie I really enjoyed watching is Hempsters: Plant the seed. Contrary to popular belief, Hemp is NOT the same plant as cannabis. They are close cousins. I enjoyed learning about Hemp, and how we could benefit from having so many different products made from hemp. Put our farmers back to work and let them grow HEMP.
The next movie I found fascinating is Forks Over Knives. if you ever needed more information on going veggie like our lovely James, THIS IS IT! Astronomical increases in cancer risk is DIRECTLY correlated to the amount of meat we eat! Very compelling info for why we should all move to a more plant based diet!
I also enjoyed watching DIVE! a movie about people that are committed to preventing perfectly good food from going to waste. I really think this issue is probably more relevant in America then in other countries. All produce, meat, dry goods etc has a "sell by date" listed on it. This date is actually several days (or even) weeks before the product actually goes bad. In the USA, grocers want to eliminate any chance of being held liable for selling food that may be close to expiration. So once an item reached the "sell by date" they pull it from the shelves and throw it away. PERFECTLY good food in a country where others are struggling to feed their family! While I dont know if I could get over my own squemishness over pulling something out of a dumpster for myself, I do wish programs were in place to keep these items out of the dumpster in the first place and maybe donated to a soup kitchen etc.
I have some Stephen Hawkings documentaries in my netflix queue right now, but havent made the time to watch them. I will update once I give them a peek.
What are you learning about via documentaries Jokers?

Just finished watching very powerful newcomer of the 2012 year—Sexy Baby documentary. It's about how modern view on sexuality affects women of nowadays. Three different women—a 12 years old teenager, 22 years old kindergarden teacher and 34 yerars old exotic dancer and pornstar shared their views on this issue. Definitely worth seeing!

I also watched a documentary called Craigslist Joe. A man leaves his job, home and all money and credit cards to see if he can live for 30 days simply bu utilizing the craigslist community.
Really cool.

I was watching a documentary called I Think We're Alone Now. It's about 2 people who are completely obsessed with the 80s singer Tiffany. Overall, it was creepy.

Hmmm. I think I might want to watch that Pants. LOL
I just finished watching the documentary "We were here." It made me cry. It was about the first days (years) of the AIDS crisis when people were dying so quickly that they were having group memorials.
I am so grateful for the advances made in medicine!

Speaking of creepy, but in a fun way, have you guys seen the Trekkies documentaries? lol There are some seriously funny people(the poor poodle and cat make us LOL!) out there that take Star Trek too far. I liked the first one and have 2 on queue.

I followed Pammy's advice and saw "We were there". Trully sad and moving story. It was especially touchy for me, because for a couple of years I was working as a volunteer psychologist for HIV positive people.
Then I saw "Stonewall Uprising", about gay community in NYC in sixties and how badly they were treated. Made me crazy for the ignorance of people in those years...
And! Foun a very interesting film, "Erasing David". Director finds out how much private companies and government know about him by attempting to disappear. He is tracked by two private investigators, and the film is about the loss of privacy. Definitely worth seeing!

I just watched the documentary "Sound and Fury" which details 2 brothers ( one hearing and one deaf) who both have deaf children and their decisions whether they would opt to give their child a cochlar implant to hear. I found the response by the deaf community very surprising. But maybe that's because I can hear.???

Oh I will have to look for it Owlka! I will be surprised? I can't imagine that the hearing family who opted for the cochlar implant would regret it? Or do they??
I know what I will be watching tonight if I find it on Netflix!
I also watched Forgiving Mengele which was about a holocaust survivor who was a twin and therefore part of the Angel of Deaths horrible experiments.
And I watched Girl 27 which was about a young dancer who had been raped by an executive at MGM back in the 30's I think. And how the studio exec's ruthlessly slandered HER to protect the studio and their monies.

This one stuck out to me. Especially since we've been having more shootings around the country, like Sandyhook.. It would be nice to see the gun laws change around here.

I feel guilty because I think of how many times I've thrown food away, that has gone past the sell by date. Next time, I'm digging in, even if the milk has some chunks in it.
One movie film/documentary I really like that I haven't seen in awhile is, Temple Grandin. It's about the struggles of an autistic woman. It gives us a glimpse of what its like for those who have this disability. It was a cute and sad movie, but overall empowering.

Hmmm. I might look for that one Anzlem.
I have been on a documentary spree lately. But now I have switched to Hoarders: Buried Alive.
I only watch the first ten minutes of every episode, to get thoroughly grossed out, then I fast forward to the last ten minutes to see if they were "cured" and they cleaned out their houses/parted with their posessions.
I could care less about the 30 minutes in between when they talked about their mother not breastfeeding them, or their dad missing their baseball games. LMAO

I watched a movie called The Wave that was based on a true event that happened in California. A teacher tries to prove that people can easily be tricked into joining fascist groups. Is that how you guys got us to join the Jokers??? Lol(I also read the book)
Mansome was a disappointing doc about facial hair. Indie Games was about the guys that made Meatboy and features other games as well. This was pretty good. You see all the crap they go through to make/sell their games.

Yes, Shreddy, I saw Cocaine Cowboys 2, but it was meh... I didn't like it.
Yesterday I've seen amazing film that hit me hard — The Invisible War, from famous documentary director Kirby Dick. It's about epidemic of rape of soldiers within the US military that perpetuate and cover up its existence, and its profound personal and social consequences... I urge you to go watch it and then if you agree with authors and victims, go sign a petition to http://www.notinvisible.org/sign_the_petition
I did it.

Yes, Shreddy, I saw it too! Every gamer should see it!
But I folowed the story further, and found that (SPOILER ALERT) in nowadays those two rival "parties" were beaten by a newcomer! You can find more on Wikipedia.(SPOILER ALERT)
And! I just saw Kimjongilia, a 2009 film about North Korea. If you want to know (not exactly though, because there were no hunger) how OWLKA was feeling himself in Soviet Russia back in a days, watch it. Very good film abot totalitarian regimes of all kinds.
