PostSubject: London Riots   London Riots EmptyTue Aug 09, 2011 11:23 am

I have been so busy at work, that I only come up for air to pop on the forum, so I am just now getting caught up on all the news events of the world.

Frev and james mentioned last night about the Riots in London, and Simmy and Echi discussed it briefly with me today in chat.

so I have been scouring MSNBC and Youtube Videos to get the full scope of what is going on in the UK!

How does this fix the problems that the protestors are angry about? Doen't it just plunge those neighborhoods deeper into despair?

More importantly, I know Flim is 3 hours away from London, but what about the rest of the UK Jokers? Frev, James, MB3, Echi and Desi...is everyone ok?

yeah I don't get the point of them... seems counter productive to me. Then again I don't know too much about it. I kinda avoid the news so I don't have to get depressed by crazy stuff like this.

I'm not sure, but I think it originally started out as a peaceful protest after a gang-member was shot and killed in Tottenham (in the north of London); which some people then took as an excuse to start looting and smashing stuff up. I'm not aware of any actual purpose to the rioting though.

It's spread to several other cities as well: Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Bristol, and I think Manchester.

I live in a village in the middle of nowhere, so I'm completely safe.

Link to live news. Text&video streams; I think it works outside UK.

Yea, i think you're right Frev, what started off as a peaceful protest, rapidly become an excuse for anyone to start destroying neighborhoods, hurting people (even innocent people) and looting anything they possibly can.. Its disgusting tbh..

Im safe as im about 3 hours from London and im not in England even.. but that's not to say that nothing can happen here just like the other cities Frev mentioned.. :-/

I hope everyone who is near or caught up in this is safe Bighug

Was just watching some london riot vids. Seems they have there reasons. Usually riots dont solve anything. But what else can you do when your government decides to stop listen to its citizens.
Thats one thing I admire about other places around the world. americans are usually to scared to do something like this.

Sometimes it looks like hate against police or law, and it is...
But Im sure there are tons of politicians who commit felonies everyday that dont even get questioned.
Thats why police get attacked, because they never will go for the real enemies.
And these brits say the police killed some1 for nothing...Well a couple of weeks ago 2 ppl got shot and killed by police in chicago for reasons unknown....one was a kid. One day its on the news the next day its history.

What would you rather have? some looting and rioting? or a whole new 9/11?

I agree with you to an extent Shred.. i mean you are right in saying that the politicians get away with loads of things and its about time something is done to change that and make them listen to us, the people.. (I mean, it wasn't too long ago it was revealed how much most of the political empire was spending on expenses.. even paying for second mortgages using our taxes and stuff!!) But rioting... really? I just dont see the need in mindless violence that is hurting people, physically and mentally.. I know people want to take a stance and make a difference to show the goverment enough is enough.. but how is this helping? Streets of shops and blocks of Flats burnt to the ground.. hundreds of people left homeless with no possessions through mindless vandalism gone too far, innocent people getting hurt and mugged (See Cakelair for one prime example..), millions of pounds worth of damage to areas which doesn't only effect the people who's property/possesions were destroyed, but causes complete chaos to the people who then have to live around those areas, some even afraid to leave their homes as something might kick off again.. 6 people (at the last i heard) died during these riots.. I just dont see how this is helping anything at all..

I know how we can protest about the violence that the police used on that guy that died.. Let's start some riots with some extreme violence, kill some people and cause complete chaos for everyone. Let's fight Violence with Violence x 1000, that'll work.

Sorry, i just think these riots were a waste of our hard earned tax money that is going towards the help and care of the hundreds of people injured/homeless due to this mindless violence, not to mention a waste of human life in the few that were inevitably killed during them.

Police have already arrested hundreds of people connected to these riots, and i hope they get everything that is coming to them.

I dunno as much as I agree with what you're saying in principle Shred... the truth is a lot of those rioters are attacking poor innocent private business owners... I can understand why they're mad, but a lot of them are attacking/taking it out on the wrong people.

Your right, 2 wrongs dont make a right. the senceless stuff like robbing and beating is stupid...I feel like im lower class lately, I could amagine myself doing stuff I wouldnt normally do If I was poor.

but being mister nice guy isnt getting us nowhere fast.
my point is the only thing that will ever change the worlds biggest problems
is real physical action, by the majority ... Not some stupid sign or protest.

I know it sounds stupid but isnt it a fact that when economies arent the best,
the crime rates go up?
Thats crime that u can blame on the how your society was molded.
Yeah everyday ppl like you and me no right from wrong.
But someone who is a product of a messed up society doesnt.
And yeah some ppl just use that as an excuse, but some truly do think totally different then me and u.
And lately more and more ppl are moving on down a class..
If things keep going the way they are, the majority will be lower class and poor.
Lets just wait and see if the crime rate goes up...
then maybe one day we will have more ppl in jail and prison then ppl who have there freedom. That will be fun.

True, most times it is, the alternative would be to start civil war, though I think it'd be worse.

There are some rare cases that people didn't resort to violence to get what they wanted.

Ghandi could prevent war with the UK and still get independence for India, but it took what, 60 years? And though they saved a lot of people many still died.

In Portugal's revolution, 25th of April 1975 we overthrew a dictator with the military on the people's side without guns or whatever, and sometimes just having the military is enough.

I think in Vietnam things only got out of hand when their army joined, am I right?

In London's case I think same thing would apply if they had the army they would defenetivelly win but w or wo violence.

And that being messed up can't be an excuse all the time, by reading they can have a different view on the world and in their situation. And easily distinguish right from wrong. Just because they're surrounded by stupid people doesn't mean their stupid as well. That excuse is far away from a valid one
